Fosters are the heart and soul of our foundation. Without their countless hours of dedication and hard work to these dogs, we would not be able to do it!
Why We Need Foster Families
Many of the dogs we rescue come from background of abuse and neglect and have spent most if not all of their lives without having the most basic of needs met.
As you can imagine, they need a lot of love and care, and this is why we need foster homes. Our foster families are loving, compassionate, and patient individuals who are making all of the difference in the lives of our rescues. After their time in foster care they will be ready for their new homes and miles ahead of where they were when they came into our care.
Our rescues need help learning how to be a member of the family, they need to learn that not all humans want to hurt them, they need to learn how to play, walk on a leash, interact with people and other pets. A loving foster home is the first, and most important step on the journey to rehabilitation. Our foster families experience joy and satisfaction of a job well done as they witness the dog in their care flourish into a confident and healthy pet. The quicker we can get a rescue into a semi-permanent home environment, the sooner they will start to forget their past and learn how to become a socialized pet.
We always need more foster homes in order to continue our rescue efforts. Please consider joining our team by offering your home as a temporary safe haven.
What Does Fostering Involve?
Being a foster home means sharing your home with a rescued dog; providing food, shelter, toys, walks and lots of attention, as if the dog were your own, until a permanent home for the dog is found.
We count on our foster homes to observe behaviors in a variety of situations. We ask that foster families work to housebreak and leash-train the dog. In addition, foster families need to bring the dog to meet and greets to help him/her find their forever home. We also need to hear and see updates about the foster dog on a regular basis so that we can continuously update their online biography and photos.
We invite our foster families to help us in the placement process by recruiting, and interviewing prospective adoptive placements as well as completing their own home visits if they wish. Though all final decisions are made by CACF’s Board of Directors, we value the deep bond of the foster family and value their insight.
Who Can Foster?
The most important requirements are time and attention. You must be willing to include the dog in family activities, allow the dog to live as a house dog. They will need as much human companionship and daily one-on-one time as possible. We expect our foster families to love, cuddle, play, bathe, brush, leash, and potty train our rescues.
A foster home must meet the same criteria as an adoptive home:
Be able to take the dog to one of the two Veterinarian offices we use. (Aurora and Parker, CO) If you live outside of the south metro area, please consider if you are willing to drive to these locations. We can not reimburse you for other Veterinarian fees not provided by our approved vets unless prior authorization is given.
Provided with adequate fresh food and water, clean, dry shelter when outside, and daily exercise.

If you have other pets, they must be spayed/neutered if you would like to foster a dog from us. Your other pets must be up to date on all vet care (shots and preventatives).
